Mission Bay

This week the journey continues down Tamaki Drive as I share with you images of Mission Bay
with its popular promenade, park and restaurant strip

Quote for the week

You learn to see by practice.  It's just like playing tennis, you get better the more you play.  The more you look around at things, the more you see.  The more you photograph, the more you realize what can be photographed and what can't be photographed.  You just have to keep doing it.  - Eliot Porter

Mission Bay Reserve which has a link to New Zealand's early aviation history.  The
Walsh Brothers (Austin Leonard Walsh 1881 - 1951 & Vivian Claude Walsh 1887 - 1950)
used the bay as a landing area for their sea planes after the First World War

In the centre of the reserve is the 1950 Trevor Moss Davis Memorial Fountain,
constructed of Sicilian marble.  This fountain with its bronze sea monsters
was gifted to the citizens of Auckland by Mr and Mrs E.R. Davis
in memory of their son.  In the summer months the fountain doubles up
as a pool for children

The Mission House from where Mission Bay gets its name.   This building was designed
by Reader Wood and was built of local scoria rock.  In 1882 the building was used
to train Polynesian youths in shore trades before it became home to the
